VI annual International Week

Oceans of the world connect us all.

We the undersigned agree to inform people of the main issues affecting marine ecosystems. these include coastal erosion, human population growth, air and water pollution, tourism and recreation, overfishing, use of fossil fuels, zoning and land use.

Our devotion to the Ocean prompts a call to action that requires personal responsibility, respect, moderation, teamwork and common sense.

It starts with you and me, and we challenge others to join us in the following ways:

  • Prevent furthur degredation of marine ecosystems
  • Challenge old ways
  • Be willing to pay the price both economically and socially
  • Encourage change
  • Limit use of fossil fuels
  • Plant trees
  • Research alternative solutions
  • Use tourism to fund protection of coral reefs and other marine ecosystems
  • Accept responsibility for the consequenses of our actions

We understand this is a process, not an event. Our actions may not have immediate impact, but with foresight our efforts will prevent furthur degredation.

We accept that we must be willing to learn, be open-minded to others' opinions, and to sacrifice convenience.

It is critical to our quality of life that we educate all people so that all of us come to the awareness that what affects one thing affects all things.

Oceans of the world connect us all
